On this tour you will:
  • Take an approximate 20-minute transfer to the heliport, where you'll gear up (windproof/waterproof outerwear, hard shell mountaineering style boots, crampons, back pack, and ice axe) for your adventure.
  • Board a turbine-powered helicopter, designed specifically for air touring, for an approximate 20-minute flight. The breathtaking views of the enormous Juneau Icefield and the surrounding untouched wilderness are awe-inspiring. As your helicopter flight takes you from sea level up above the temperate rainforest, your knowledgeable pilot will point out highlights, such as the rare and unique opportunity to clearly view the diverse landscape of ocean, temperate rain forest and ice all in one glance.
  • Land on the glacier for your trekking site and your guides will instruct you in the proper use of the mountaineering gear provided and brief you on the features and hazards of this unique environment. On this once-in-a-lifetime, 3-hour trek, you will hike over the rugged and often steep terrain of the glacier. This trip will stand out from all others when our expert guides find the perfect location to set ice anchors. Climb and descend towering ice walls and practice basic climbing and rope techniques. All of this is interspersed with fun and learning interesting facts about glaciers and the surrounding environment. Photo opportunities are endless, so don't forget to bring a camera, a willing attitude and an appetite for adventure.
  • Re-board your helicopter for a 10-minute return flight back to the heliport, where you'll catch your transfer back to the ship.
