On this tour your will:
  • Board an air-conditioned motor-coach and leave behind the colorful town of Kusadasi, traveling approximately 45 minutes through the verdant countryside along a hilly drive before arriving at The House of Virgin Mary, where the Blessed Virgin is reputed to have spent the last years of her life.
  • Take part on an approximate 45-minute tour of the site, which was made famous by the travels of Pope Paul VI and Pope John Paul II, in November of 2006. Pope Benedictus the 16th paid an official visit to the House of the Virgin Mary in 2007. Outside is the Fountain of Our Lady, providing the faithful water from the holy foundation.
  • From there, a short drive will take you to the entrance to the ancient ruins of Ephesus, considered the most important archeological site in Turkey.
  • Begin your approximate 90-minute guided walking tour of the open-air archeological museum of Ephesus and pass by the Magnesia gate, entering the administrative section of ancient Ephesus, one of the most magnificent excavations in the world.
  • See the Odeon, the Fountain of Trajan, the steam baths of Scholastika, the temple of Hadrian and the impressive library of Celsus. The library is adorned with columns and statues. The Grand Theater, where St. Paul preached, is one of the largest theaters in antiquity with a capacity of 24,000 seats.
  • Walk through the Arcadian Way, where Mark Anthony and Cleopatra once rode in procession.
  • After your Ephesus visit, stop at the Ephesus park, a themed re-creation of the city of Ephesus with shopping, restaurants and interactive experiences, for lunch and an exclusive interactive show.
  • After lunch, transfer to the remains of St. John's Basilica for an approximate 30-minute tour. It was once a great church built on a 2nd century tomb thought to hold the remains of St. John. While the church is now in ruins, there are frescoes, mosaics and graceful columns that attest to the glory that marked the place where St. John, the Evangelist, lived and died.
  • Conclude your visit and re-board your transportation for the trip back to Kusadasi, where you'll have the option to join the group for a refreshment stop and a brief carpet presentation or return directly to the ship, which is within walking distance.
