On this tour you will:
  • Meet your guide, board an air-conditioned motorcoach and depart the port of Piraeus, the ancient name of the harbor created in the 5th century BC and today the main port of the capital city of Athens.
  • Leave the quayside and travel approximately 75 minutes, entering the city of Athens from the Southwest along Syngrou Avenue. Pass some of the famous sites such as the Temple of Olympian Zeus and Hadrian's Arch which separates the old and the new Roman towns. Continue the scenic drive and see the National Gardens, the Parliament building (formerly the Royal Palace), the Academy, the first University and the National Library of Athens. Then, pass by the Panathenaic stadium, built in 1895, where the first Olympics was held in 1896.
  • Arrive at the bottom of the Acropolis, the Architectural masterpiece of the Golden Age and now protected by UNESCO as a World Heritage site.
  • Walk up the approximate 100 steps for a bird's eye view of the city as your tour guide shares the stories and myths of this iconic location during an approximate 90-minute visit. See the Propylea entrance, the Erectheum, the Temple of wingless Victory and of course, the crowning glory of Athens, the incomparable Parthenon dedicated to honor Athena, the patron goddess of Athens.
  • Descend the same steps and reboard the motorcoach for a quick transfer to a culinary school, where you'll see the preparation of some of the most famous Greek dishes, before savoring each one of them as they are prepared.
  • Savor tzatziki, ntakos, spinach pie, gemista and yogurt with honey along with a few alcoholic beverages (a glass of ouzo and a glass of wine with main course).
  • Conclude the approximate 75-minute culinary experience with all your recipes in hand and join your guide on a 15-minute stroll to the Plaka neighborhood, one of the oldest in Athens, and a great place to shop and browse.
  • Enjoy approximately 75 minutes of free time at Plaka before reboarding the motorcoach for your trip back to Piraeus.
Important Additional Information
  • Wheelchairs need to be standard size and collapsible; no electric wheelchairs/scooters are permitted. Guests must be able to board and disembark the motorcoach on their own. Guests that are unable to negotiate the stairs at the Acropolis can see the site from a lower area and reunite with the group after the visit.
  • This tour includes approximately one mile of walking uphill/downhill on uneven surfaces and 200 steps (both ways). Guests are advised to wear flat and comfortable walking shoes.
  • Large backpacks and oversized purses are not permitted inside the site. Long queues and waiting might occur and every effort is made to coordinate the best timings for visits.
  • The order of sites may be reversed based on traffic, weather and overcrowding of venues.
  • A "whisper system" headset will be provided during the tour.
  • Temperatures can get extremely high during summer. Guests are encouraged to wear hats, sunglasses, insect repellent and sunscreen lotion, and to stay hydrated. An optional umbrella to create shade is also advisable.
  • Guests are encouraged to bring credit cards and currency to purchase optional extras such as souvenirs, food and beverages.
  • You should never feel that gratuities are expected, but it is customary to leave a tip in recognition of exceptional service in restaurants, taxis and for excursion guides and drivers. It is always up to you to determine the amount.
