Will I need to renew my passport?
Brexit – Frequently Asked Questions
Possibly; check the date that your passport expires. When travelling in or to the EU before 31st December 2020, you’ll need to hold a valid passport for the duration of your holiday. If travelling after 31st December 2020, the UK government recommends that you have 6 months left on your passport from the date of your arrival to an EU country. You should also check when your passport was renewed. If you renewed a 10-year adult passport before it expired, extra months may have been added to your passport’s expiry date. The UK Government indicated that these extra months beyond 10 years would not count towards the 6 months that must be remaining.
The UK government has published a website tool to help you check the validity of your passport under these rules. Take a moment to check your passport now. Additionally, we invite you to learn more about renewing your passport.
