Piraeus (Athens), Greece

Location: Europe

All new for 2013—Disney Cruise Line goes to Piraeus, Greece! Enter the Port of Piraeus, gateway to the ancient wonders of Athens, and an exciting addition to our European ports of call.

Athens is the capital of Greece, and its oldest and largest city. The surrounding landscape seems a fitting place for the Greek Gods, with Athens set on a plateau in a huge basin framed by 4 majestic mountains. Athens' inhabitants date back some 7,000 years. It was a center of humanities, considered the cradle of western civilization and the birthplace of democracy, with former residents such as Aristotle, Socrates and Plato.

Today Athens is a vast sprawling city of hills and valleys as far as the eye can see. It is a modern metropolis boasting ancient Greco-Roman and Classical Greek ruins amongst a cityscape. There are fascinating museums filled with antiquities, artwork and architecture. Some of its most famous ancient monuments include the Parthenon, the Temple of Olympian Zeus, the Acropolis of Athens and the Daphni Monastery. By all accounts, a visit to Athens should be a part of your Disney Cruise Line vacation.
